We are working with a leading UK manufacturing business operating within the plastics packaging and circular economy sector, producing high-volume industrial packaging solutions for a wide range of FMCG and industrial customers. The site is a large-scale injection moulding and processing facility that has recently undergone significant investment to modernise equipment, improve reliability and drive a more proactive engineering culture.
Following over £6 million investment into the site, the engineering function is now transitioning from a reactive maintenance model to a more proactive, continuous improvement-led approach. As part of this transformation, the business is recruiting three new Maintenance Engineers to strengthen the team and support ongoing refurbishment, new equipment installation and reliability improvements.
This is a great opportunity for a Maintenance Engineer to join at a key stage of change, where you will have real influence in shaping engineering standards, improving plant performance and contributing to long-term site development.
You will be working a Suez-style 5 on / 5 off shift pattern (days and nights) offering excellent work-life balance, including long weekends and extended time off each cycle.
This role would suit a Maintenance Engineer from a manufacturing or FMCG background, whether mechanically or electrically biased, who is looking to move into a more structured, improvement-focused engineering environment.
Responsibilities of a maintenance engineer:
- Carry out planned and reactive maintenance across injection moulding and manufacturing equipment
- Ensure machinery and facilities are maintained for safe, efficient and reliable operation
- Support installation and commissioning of new equipment and refurbishment projects
- Work as part of a proactive engineering team focused on continuous improvement
- Assist in developing a more preventative maintenance culture across the site
- Support compliance with health, safety, environmental and quality standards
- Follow risk assessments, permits and safe systems of work at all times
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping within engineering areas
- Work collaboratively with production to reduce downtime and improve performance
Skills & qualifications of a maintenance engineer:
- NVQ Level 3 or recognised engineering apprenticeship (Mechanical or Electrical)
- Multi-skilled engineer with either mechanical or electrical bias
- Experience within manufacturing, FMCG or industrial production environments
- Strong fault-finding and diagnostic ability on manufacturing equipment
- Understanding of injection moulding or plastics processing (desirable)
- Ability to work within a structured team and support continuous improvement culture
- Strong awareness of health & safety in a manufacturing environment
Benefits of a maintenance engineer:
- Basic salary: £54,000
- Suez shift pattern (5 on / 5 off – 12 hour shifts, days & nights)
- Excellent work-life balance (approx. 6 months working per year)
- 22 days holiday + bank holidays (increasing with service up to 25 days)
- Strong company pension scheme
- Genuine career progression and funded training opportunities
- Support for additional qualifications and development
- Free onsite parking
- Long-term stable role within a heavily invested manufacturing site
