We are working with a well-established food manufacturer in the bakery sector, with over a century of heritage in Leicestershire. The business runs a 24/7 multi-site operation with a team of close to 1,000 people and has grown rapidly over the last 15 years, with major capital investment backing the next stage of growth.
Reporting to the Engineering Shift Manager, you will be part of the shift engineering team keeping production plant and site services running safely and efficiently. It is a varied, hands-on role supporting both the manufacturing and supply chain operation.
This would suit a proactive engineer from a food or FMCG background who enjoys variety and wants a long-term home in a growing business. Attitude is valued just as highly as experience here, so a methodical engineer with good communication skills will be well supported to develop.
Responsibilities of a Multi-Skilled Shift Engineer:
- Electrical and mechanical maintenance, both planned and reactive, across production plant and site services
- Working closely with production to keep downtime to a minimum and complete preventative maintenance ahead of time
- Fault-finding and investigating breakdowns, recording repairs so recurring issues can be resolved for good
- Working safely to permits to work, SOPs, H&S and GMP standards
- Keeping engineering systems up to date, including CMMS, PM records and shift handovers
- Coordinating third-party contractors on site
Skills & Qualifications of a Multi-Skilled Shift Engineer:
- Recognised electrical or mechanical engineering qualification (NVQ, HNC or completed apprenticeship)
- Multi-skilled maintenance experience within food manufacturing or a similar fast-paced FMCG environment
- Strong electrical and mechanical fault-finding, ideally including control systems and gas, electrical and air services
- Experience on an automated production site, ideally including shift or night work
- Good understanding of food safety, GMP and H&S, with an interest in Lean and continuous improvement
- Bakery experience is desirable but not essential
